First look at the US cover for MR. MONSTER

Last week I got a big shiny box from Tor–shiny not in the literal sense, but in the deeper, more meaningful imaginary sense. What should it contain within but a big stack of advance copies of my first sequel, Mr. Monster! This was my first look at the cover design, and I have to say that it is AWESOME.

What do you think?

Looks great, and ties right in to the IANASK cover.

  2. WEKM says:

Ok, that just rocks. I can hardly wait to get my hands on that one too.
    Wait, I didn’t mean it like that…

  3. Matthew Watkins says:

Awesome!! This is really a neat cover. Can’t wait to have it on my shelf. IANASK had a beautiful cover as well, and lots of people have picked it up off my shelf to read the back. Usually a good sign.

  4. Alex Booth says:

That’s fantastic! It has that sparce simplicity that is often lost on book covers because they try to cram too much in too little space. Well done.

  5. Mike says:

Very nice. Is Sept. 28 (as per chapters website) the actual Canadian release date, or just their guesstimate?
Also, is there a Canadian book tour planned?

  6. Jillena says:

Awesome! I just hope they fix the spelling in the quote. Having a misspelled word on the cover is not a good idea :). Unless “chiling” is a new word and I’m out of the loop :(.

  7. Jenny says:

    I LOVE IT.

It’s very Dexter – minimalist and awesome!

  8. Sean says:

Um, John stole your knife apparently. See? It has your name on it.

  9. David says:

Evocative minimalism. Love it, wish more books could do this.

  10. Shi says:

Hey, I dig it! I like the simplicity. And the idea of John with a knife… well, we did get a taste of that from the first book. This’ll look great on the shelves.

  11. stacy says:

I think “chilling” is spelled with two Ls. :D And that otherwise, it’s a great design. It’ll stand out on the shelf.

  12. Solid. Glad others saw the misspell, because I missed it.

  13. Mike says:

    Love it!

  14. I like it!!!
But i also like the monster eyes too on the other book…

    Either way–Spooky.

I like it a lot..but then it could be a blank cover and I’d love it…I just finished reading IANASK….holy shit.!…I’m sold…I read it straight through and every time I had to stop to pee or eat I’d send someone an email about this great book I’m reading..I’m going to do a post on my blog and spread the word…You done good kiddo…fecking loved it.

my post on my book review…
what’s funny is..with my weird and off the way life and attitude, people thought the title of my post(your book title) was about me…someone thought i had been read my marinda rights..haha

  17. Hannah says:

Haha, I lent my copy of Mr. Monster to a friend a few weeks ago. She read it in four hours, and has since then read it again. I don’t think I’m getting it back.

  18. PJ says:

Did someone say Canadian book tour?!?

  19. John Brown says:

Love it. That is a great simple cover.

  20. Nathan Major says:

Wow. That’s brilliant. That is seriously one of the best covers I’ve seen. I’m a huge fan of minimalistic/abstract covers, and that is downright fantastic. I’m buying this book first day, for certain.

  21. Steve D says:

Great cover. I like the back of it even better where my blog has a cover quote…

  22. Arlene says:

Nice! What’s your favorite cover so far? How many are there now?

  23. Mike says:

I finally tracked down a copy of Serial Killer on Saturday, and finished it the very same day. It was amazing and I can’t wait to read Mr. Monster when it finally comes out! Great job!

  24. Mark Jackson says:

    Perfect

  25. erisian23 says:

    i can dig it..
i have a knife like that, but i use it primarily for eating apples, not for killing people.. except on tuesdays.

    lets just make that clear..

  26. Tabitha says:

I just finished reading I Am Not a Serial Killer, and I WANT MORE! What an incredible thriller. You should have a Goodreads giveaway of the sequel…and make sure that I win it. :)

  27. tim says:
